Project Description
Magdalena Morey
Artist Biography
Born in 1974, Magdalena studied art for 10 years in the university town of Lublin in Poland, first gaining a Diploma in Textiles, and later a Masters degree in Painting. After moving to Cambridge, England in 2005, she found various venues in which to display her work and received her first offer of permanent gallery representation in 2008. Soon after, Magdalena moved to Switzerland where she continued painting whilst raising her young children. In 2015 she and her family followed their dream of living in Spain and after spending a few years under the Madrid sun, now lives in the picturesque, greener region of Asturias in the far north of the country, where she supports her family with her continuing artistic explorations. She is currently represented by several international galleries and has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions around the world. Her works are held in private collections across various continents.
My practice is shaped by a life lived across cultures, a journey that continues to inform both my identity and my creative process. These experiences surface in the figures I paint: fragmented yet searching, marked by tension and quiet resilience. Each piece is a distinct moment, an echo of doubt, healing, and the universal desire for connection.
Abstraction plays a constant role in my work. I use it deliberately to draw attention to perceptual patterns and ideological structures, as well as the often-unseen frameworks that shape how we relate to ourselves and others. In shifting between clarity and ambiguity, I aim to create work that invites sustained attention: a space where emotion and thought unfold slowly, beyond first impressions.
