Mascia is convinced that art is not only the results of a mystic experience but requires continuous hard work and knowledge of the means of his profession. Each work is a challenge of questions, that never have just one answer. There is an undeniable intention to acquire the uniqueness of each artwork. To the attentive eye one cannot miss that these particular results are as much echoes of the past, a renewed dialog with specific enquiries from the second half of the last century, as they are towards the future and therefore works that reveal themselves as being able to join, as Merleau-Ponty wrote: “the traditions borrowed and that which it founds”. This form of painting is created for the sake of adventure, that recount the needs of the work in the making, where the artist in his attempts and trials must decide to
eliminate, substitute or rehash making choices and knowing how to anticipate. This adventurous spirit is also evident due to the fact that the artist does not use normal pigments for his works, meaning that the chromatic effects are produced by the reaction with the surface material using acids from common household products. The acids and materials used are never a simple means for achieving an end as a priority, but rather contain a formal calling that the artist tries to reveal, they have their own morals and more than addressing an idea, they can suggest it so as to qualify it. Therefore it is often the case that in the course of artistic inquiry
it is the materials used that become the source of inspiration.
The greatest merit and sensibility of the artist Pino Mascia is that of being able to think and live the language of painting as an open field, where unknown
energy and living emotions lead him towards the future and other experiences that have always been fed by his desire for meaning and being authentic.
