Cedars Samuel L. Cohen Homes

Nearly 200 Individual Works of Local Art. With an emphasis on the role of art in wellbeing and aging in place and a commitment to the Maine arts community, Casco Bay Artisans (CBA) was retained to source and curate original art from their own artists and around the state to fulfill the needs for incoming Cedars residents, ensuring they truly feel at home. 

In the midst of a global pandemic, a call came to Casco Bay Artisans that would inject excitement and money into the local arts economy. The Cedars was entering the final phases of their new Samuel L. Cohen project, a series of ‘cottages’ aimed at providing care to seniors in Portland, Maine. Each floor would have a unique theme with works of original local art work adorning the walls. To meet the needs of this project, Casco Bay Artisans was contracted in September 2020 to provide most of the work for this expansive project. With an initial deadline of December 2020 and complications due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, CBA went to work sourcing nearly 200 individual works of art from 27 artists across the state in an array of two dimensional mediums.
